The Laboratorio di Studi Rurali Sismondi is a non-profit cultural association established in 2006 through the collaborative efforts of university scholars and researchers—predominantly associated with the University of Pisa—engaged in the domains of agricultural economics, rural policy formulation, governance frameworks, and local development. Today, the Laboratory brings together around thirty academics and professionals from various institutions and universities.
The Laboratory’s mission is to promote, in an open and collaborative manner, scientific and cultural inquiry and the exploration alongside the dissemination of knowledge pertaining to the transformation of rural regions, their populations, and their natural resources.
What we do
Research
Research activities are carried out across multiple domains, encompassing both theoretical and applied investigations on rurality, agricultural policies, local and sustainable development, project design, monitoring, and evaluation.
Training and Publishing Activities
The Sismondi Laboratory collaborates in the development of theoretical and practical courses for students, technicians, trainers, and sector professionals. The Laboratory also carries out publishing activities and contributes to the production of materials aimed at dissemination and public outreach.
